Teams will start practicing the first week of November. Depending on age and level, there will be 3-4 hours of practice time per week. Practices are held at local elementary and middle schools.
Elementary: Two (1.5) hour practices per week. Possibility of 1-2 winter break practices.
Middle School: Two (2) hour practices per week OR two (1.5) hour practices + one 1 hour practice per week. Possibility of 1-2 winter break practices. -
Games will be on Saturdays and Sundays. Parents and spectators should plan to pay daily entry fees in order to watch the games. Entry fees typically range from $5-$12 per person depending on age.
MMYBA works to match teams with the right tournaments for their skill level.
Most tournaments are in the Portland metro area and will be in December, January, and February. If teams qualify, they may also travel to Salem for state championship tournaments in March.
-
During tryouts, players will be evaluated. Evaluations are based on specific criteria where players are given a 1-5 rating. After tryouts, an evaluation team will meet to go over the results and finalize team placements, typically with 8-10 payers per team.
Team announcements are made within one week after tryouts.
-
Families may elect to pay up front or in 1/3 installments. The first payment will be due when registering for your player's selected team. Ensuing payments will be due on Dec. 4 and Jan. 8.
All players will need to purchase a new uniform. The uniform try-on date will be announced at a later time. Uniform payment is to be paid when registering for your team and is not eligible for the payment plan. -
In an effort to reduce costs for families, we have a fundraising commitment program. Families may participate in the program or buy out their commitment. Fundraising is used to offset the difference between what families pay and the actual cost per player that MMYBA incurs through things like gym and tournament fees. Fundraising that exceeds our goals may be used for individual team needs. We offer prizes for fundraising efforts. More information to be announced after teams are formed.

Yes, but we encourage all players looking to play competitive basketball to come to tryouts. We do our best to place every player on a team. If our evaluators feel that the player would benefit from recreational basketball to improve their skills we will direct them to NCPRD’s Hoopers program. We do offer multiple skills clinics throughout the year for all players in the community to help players increase their skills in the offseason.
-
Yes, this is for basketball players who want to be more challenged and increase their skills. If you are looking for recreational basketball, please reach out and we can direct you to local options.

No. As a competitive basketball program, we expect players to compete and earn opportunities, and for coaches to properly assess their team with full discretion on how to set their rotations.
-
Our coaches are committed volunteers that undergo safesport and concussion training. We also align with the high school to coach players up in a way that prepares them for the future. A lot of our volunteers are parents who have a basketball background or previous coaching experience. We encourage parents or interested community members to get in touch with us.

Proper fitting basketball shoes and water are a must. While MMYBA supplies some balls for each team, it is helpful if some athletes are able to bring their own ball. All girls and boys 4-6th grade: size 6 (28.5"). Boys grade 7-8: size 7 (29.5");
